CAMPING ON AN ERUPTING VOLCANO IN GUATEMALA

The Beginning: Srinagar to Nichnai
As our team embarked from Srinagar towards Shitkadi, the pristine landscapes of maple, pine, and silver birch forests cocooned us in nature's embrace. On the first day, the 11.6km hike from Shitkadi to Nichnai introduced us to the bewitching Nichnai Lake, sitting at 3,505 meters, which seemed to whisper tales of ancient times.
The Twin Marvels: Vishnu Saran & Kishnasar
Day two brought the challenge of a 13.5km trek, but with it came the reward of witnessing Vishnu Sar and Kishansar. Named after Lords Vishnu and Krishna, these twin lakes, encrusted like azure jewels amid the mountains, held captivating stories of their own. Legends speak of their divine presence, and standing by their serene waters, one could feel a celestial tranquility.
The Longest Trail: Gadsar Lake
The third day's 16 km trek was the most challenging yet equally rewarding. As we navigated the rocky terrains and crossed vibrant meadows dotted with red, blue, and purple flowers, Gadsar Lake awaited us, as if in anticipation of our tales and tired feet.
To Satsar and Beyond
With every step taken on the fourth day towards Satsar, we could sense the merging of adventure and spirituality. The Army huts stationed en route were a testament to the region's significance and the challenges it often posed.
Mystical Heights: Gangabal
Day five saw us trekking through rocky terrains, scaling the Zaj Pass, and being greeted by the ethereal beauty of the twin lakes, Gangabal and Nundkol. Resting beneath the mighty Mt. Harmukh, these waters seemed to harbor ancient secrets. The Nundkol Lake, especially, held tales of Lord Shiva's guardian Nandi, and his penance.
The Grand Finale: Naranag
On the final day, as we descended to Naranag, the Nundkol Lake's legends echoed in our ears. Its tales of Shiva and Nandi's presence left an indelible mark on our souls. With every step back to civilization, we carried memories of untouched beauty, rugged challenges, and the mystical tales of the lakes.
